Book ReviewMaster of Light Ansel Adams and His Influences

The book contains photographs of Ansel Adams National Park Service photographs and it also includes information about Ansel and his influences, such as fine art photography, documentary photography in America and photographs by other photographers such as Paul Strand. The photographs included within this book are all black and white because he focused mainly on the lighting of the visual and made colour irrelevant in his work.

.
'Half Dome, Apple Orchard, Yosemite National Park, 1933'

The image is an apple orchard tree covered in snow. The central focus to this image is of the apple orchard tree, this is because it fills the whole of the image and because it fills the whole image your eyes  are drawn to it more. The shapes within this image are organic because of the trees in the foreground and the mountain in the background. The lighting is a key aspect within this image, as it is with all of Ansel Adam's photographs. The lighting within this image is brighter in the foreground because of the snow. The snow helps with the contrast between the background and the shadows because it really makes itself stand out more because of how dark the background and shadows are.

Book Review
Joel Sternfeld American Prospects

Joel Sternfeld American Prospects, contains photographs taken throughout the American landscape and within the book are some famous photographs of his, such as the 'McLean, Virginia, 1978'. The photographs taken throughout the book are all printed in colour and it is noticeable that the colour has a key role within this book as it helps emphasise the vibrancy of American and the contrasts between different colours within the American landscape.

'Wet 'N' Wild Aquatic Theme Park, Orlando, Florida, 1980'

This is the cover image of the book. The image shows people at one of the American water parks, it shows tourists relaxing and enjoying themselves with friends and/or family members. The main subject of the image is the middle ground where there is people within the wave pool enjoying themselves.
Within this image I find colour really interesting because I like how bright and vivid the water within the wave pool is in comparison to the rest of the image as the rest of the image's colour is dull and bland, this helps to draw your eyes onto the main subject of the image easier.

This was my second time in the studio. The focus was experimenting with shadows. To experiment with shadows we had to use a different lighting set up. These are a few of my favourite images. Hope you enjoy them :)

These photographs were taken during last term. This was my first time in the studio.
